Salford Council is looking for a qualified and experienced Best Interests Assessor (BIA) to join their Adults Services team on a locum basis. The role involves undertaking Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments and ensuring that decisions made on behalf of adults lacking capacity are lawful, proportionate, and in their best interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out Best Interests Assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DoLS framework.
Work collaboratively with mental health assessors, care providers, and families to gather and evaluate relevant information.
Provide clear, well-reasoned recommendations regarding authorisations and any necessary conditions.
Ensure that assessments are completed within statutory timescales and all documentation is accurate and legally compliant.
Offer expert advice on mental capacity and DoLS to social work teams and partner agencies.
Keep up to date with legal developments and contribute to best practice within the safeguarding and MCA frameworks.
