Surgical First Assistant

Location: Chesham, Buckinghamshire
Pay Rates:

• Standard: £55.24 per hour
• Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
• Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, shifts available

Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting a skilled Surgical First Assistant to join a dynamic surgical team in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. This role offers the chance to assist with a variety of surgical procedures in a state-of-the-art facility while contributing to outstanding patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct assistance to surgeons during a wide range of surgical procedures.
• Prepare and maintain surgical equipment, ensuring everything is sterile and ready for use.
• Perform essential intraoperative tasks, including tissue handling, suction, and haemostasis.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care throughout surgery.
• Monitor patient vitals and assist in responding to intraoperative emergencies.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient documentation.

Requirements:

• Active NMC or HCPC registration.
• Proven experience working as a Surgical First Assistant in a theatre setting.
• Excellent knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and infection control.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility to cover shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience assisting in complex and specialised surgeries (e.g., orthopaedic, cardiac).
• Advanced life support (ALS) certification.
• Familiarity with surgical technology and modern equipment.
