Job details: This Occupational Therapist position is commissioned on an “as-and-when” basis, specifically to perform specialist harness assessments and fittings for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) utilising council-operated home-to-school transport. The post holder may be called upon 2 to 4 times per month, sometime more, sometime less as it is dependent on demand. It is unlikely that they will be required on a weekly basis and will be called upon when needed. It is expected that each assessment will between 1 and 3 hours depending on the individual needs of the child. Core Responsibilities: Specialist Assessment: Evaluate individual children’s needs regarding safety harnesses and seating arrangements during transportation, ensuring the equipment supports their specific physical and developmental needs. Harness Fitting: Professionally fit harnesses and other safety equipment, ensuring suitability, safety, and comfort. Provide clear documentation on appropriate use and adjustments. Compliance and Safety: Guarantee that all assessments and equipment recommendations comply with statutory health and safety regulations and guidelines for transporting SEND children. Advisory Role: Offer professional guidance to council transport teams, PAs, and families on best practices in transporting SEND children safely and comfortably.
