Surgical First Assistant

Location: Croydon, Surrey
Pay Rates:

• Standard: £55.24 per hour
• Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
• Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, shifts available

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant to support surgical procedures in a busy hospital setting in Croydon, Surrey. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside expert surgical teams across various specialities, ensuring top-tier patient care throughout each procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons directly in the operating theatre, maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care.
• Prepare surgical instruments and ensure theatre readiness before each procedure.
• Support with tissue retraction, suction, haemostasis, and wound closure during operations.
• Monitor and respond to patient needs during surgery, providing real-time updates to the team.
• Adhere to infection control policies and maintain a sterile field at all times.
• Work collaboratively with surgical, anaesthetic, and nursing teams for seamless operations.

Requirements:

• Active NMC or HCPC registration.
• Previous experience working as a Surgical First Assistant in a fast-paced hospital environment.
• In-depth understanding of surgical instruments and protocols.
• Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on teamwork and patient care.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgical procedures.
• Competency in emergency response protocols within theatre settings.
• Advanced training or additional certifications in surgical assistance.
